"Gay Couples are Unnatural"

http://atheism.about.com/od/gaymarriage/a/GaysUnnatural.htm?r=et

The provided topic is on "Gay Couples are Unnatural." The Author of this article, Austin Cline, argues against the idea of gay marriage being wrong because gay couples are somehow unnatural. For the mass majority, heterosexual relationships are the norm in both society and in nature. Due to the premise below, Austin Cline claims that such a premise has influenced other arguments and lies behind many people’s negative opinions about homosexuality in general and has taken the time to fight against such arguments.

Premise: Homosexual relationships are thus abnormal and unnatural;

Conclusion: therefore, they shouldn't be validated by the state nor recognized as a form of marriage.

This article contained several arguments on this particular topic, however, I chose to focus on paragraphs 4-6, starting at "A common and simplistic meaning..." and ending at "... it's a cheap and poorly applied veneer to boot."

This argument was well scripted and provided good evidence; however, I rated this argument under "Moderate Condition." The fallacy that was committed, by Austin Cline, was Straw Man. The Author re-characterized the opposing argument in paragraph 5 by adding "Second, we don't find dogs, cows, and lions entering into legal marriage contracts with one other-does that mean that marriage as an institution is "unnatural" and should be eliminated?", making marriage as a whole at question of being unnatural verses the subject at hand being that Gay marriage being wrong because gay couples are somehow unnatural.

Though the analysis was meant for the Author, I couldn't help but to notice a fallacy being made by the opposed arguer siding with Gay couples being unnatural, which was Appeal to Ignorance. Peter Akinola, Anglican Archbishop of Nigeria quotes:

I cannot think of how a man in his senses would be having a sexual relationship with another man. Even in the world of animals-dogs, cows, lions- we don't hear of such things.

Mr. Akinola imposed since homosexuality is unheard of in the animal world; therefore it's unnatural in humans.
